Do not underestimate the value of doing a separate sports promo demo. There are so many more cable networks broadcasting sports and the demand for sports promos has gone up exponentially. It’s not enough to bury a sports read in the 4th or 5th position on your network promo demo. Go on any agency’s Voicebank promo page. You’ll see 60-100 VO artists listed and maybe 4 of them have sports promo demos. If you’re a sports promo producer looking for a new voice, what are you going to click? A random promo demo or a specific sports promo demo?
And if you do one, make sure the producer knows everything about sports. What’s the difference between a CBS, Fox and Golf Channel golf promo read? What are other promotable avenues for the NFL besides the typical “Team A vs Team B” read? What’s the difference between a good NHL read and a good NBA read?
